The National Fishery and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) has officially kicked off a massive coastal clean-up campaign across the West Point and Banjor beaches, setting the pace for a cleaner, healthier marine environment as Liberia prepares to celebrate World Fisheries Day on November 21, 2025.
Speaking during the launch on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 launch, Acting Director General J. Cyrus Saygbe Sr. underscored NaFAA’s renewed commitment to restoring and sustaining cleanliness across all nine coastal counties.
According to him, this requires a joint effort to keep all our beaches clean and green in the country.
He added that NaFAA is working closely with its fisheries partners to strengthen and expand the initiative nationwide.
NaFAA is calling on fishermen, fishmongers, local businesses, community leaders, and residents to join hands in ensuring that Liberia’s beaches remain clean, safe, and environmentally sound for everyone.
The launch event brought together key partners who pledged their unwavering support, including: Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Conservation International (CI), Liberia National Coast Guard, Liberia Artisanal Fishermen Association (LAFA) which reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the Government of Liberia (GOL) through NaFAA to keep the beaches clean.
He said this clean-up campaign marks another important step toward safeguarding Liberia’s fisheries, protecting marine ecosystems, and promoting a resilient blue economy.
“For the World Fisheries Day 2025 celebration, we also have lots of activities on-going. First we were in Robertsport, Grand Cape Mount County, for one-day sports, and yesterday we were on the University of Liberia campus for the Inter-University Debate on Aquaculture and Fisheries, and today is clean-up campaign.”
