Renowned international figure and Nobel Peace Laureate, Leymah Gbowee, has called on Unity Partisans to do the right thing by allowing the Standard Bearer of the party, Ambassador Joseph N. Boakai, to retire from politics amidst his health issues.

In a timeline post on her Facebook page, Gbowee said, “Dear Unity Party officials, including my Aunty Dabah Varpilah, in the interest of peace, development and the future of Liberia, I would like to ask you all to kindly allow Uncle Joe Boakai to retire from politics and focus on his health. He deserves to spend his golden years interacting with his grandkids, enjoying family time.”

She used the opportunity to urge all members of the Unity Party (UP) to reconsider their partnership with other political parties and form a merger that will provide a viable political option for the Liberian people.

“The writings are on the wall; my Uncle Joe is in no position to contest! Uncle Joe, please be well—I pray God’s blessings upon you,” she said.

She said it is high time Liberians put egos aside and put Liberia and its interest first!

Ambassador Boakai was sometime last week admitted at the ELWA hospital after falling ill. He was however discharged from the hospital a few days after the news of his ill condition was leaked to the public.

Photos viewed by the Hot Pepper while being discharged from the hospital show that Ambassador Boakai is yet to completely recover from the illness, and that one of hands and legs were not as active as normal.

However, Unity Partisans continue to claim that Ambassador Boakai is in good state, and that he is all set and ready for the 2023 general and presidential elections.
