ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML), in partnership with the Government of Liberia (GOL), has announced the launch of the 10th batch of its Advanced Academic Scholarship Program with a call for applications by interested candidates.

The launch of the 10th international recruitment cycle of international scholarship beneficiaries is in continuation of a long-standing tradition of investing in the education and future of young Liberians.

Since the start of its operations in Liberia in 2005, AML has emerged as one of the country’s foremost private sector champions of education. Through its international scholarship program, nearly 100 Liberian students have benefited from full academic sponsorships abroad, earning degrees from prestigious institutions across the United States, China, India, Europe, and other parts of the world.

The program provides opportunities for Liberian students to pursue graduate (master’s) and other advanced degrees in priority disciplines critical to national development, including engineering (excluding environmental engineering/science), geo-sciences, civil surveying, and other STEM fields such as medical sciences.

As part of the 2025 cycle, applicants are required to be Liberian citizens who have resided in the country for at least two academic years and hold an undergraduate degree in one of the eligible sciences. Applicants must be 35 years or younger and submit their complete applications as a single PDF file to mda.scholarship@arcelormittal.com by December 1, 2025. Hard copy submissions will not be accepted.

The application package must include proof of citizenship, transcripts with a minimum GPA of 3.0, an official admission letter from an accredited foreign university, two recommendation letters, and a 500-word essay explaining how the scholarship will enable the applicant to make a positive impact in Liberia. Proof of residential status and other supporting documents are also required.

Recommended universities include the University of Nairobi (Kenya), University of Ghana (Ghana), Makerere University (Uganda), Universiti Putra Malaysia (Malaysia), University of Zambia (Zambia), and institutions in India, Nigeria, and Thailand. Admission letters from universities in South Africa and Singapore will also be considered, while U.S. and European universities are excluded from this cycle.

Beyond the current application period, AML’s broader scholarship initiative continues to transform lives. The company’s comprehensive support covers tuition, housing, living stipend, travel, and insurance, allowing scholars to concentrate fully on their studies. Many of the program’s alumni have returned to Liberia and are now serving in leadership roles across both the public and private sectors, including key technical and managerial positions at ArcelorMittal Liberia.

According to an AML spokesperson, the goal of the scholarship program goes beyond individual advancement. “We are building a pipeline of highly skilled Liberians who will lead the next generation of mining, industrial, and economic growth,” the spokesperson said.

As ArcelorMittal Liberia celebrates 20 years of operation, its commitment to education remains a cornerstone of its corporate social responsibility and nation-building strategy. Through programs like the Advanced Academic Scholarship, the company continues to demonstrate that the true wealth of Liberia lies in the education, creativity, and potential of its people.
