The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) and the National Security Agency (NSA) have arrested a 31-year-old Guinea Bissau national, Malam Conte. The arrest was made in plain view following a verified intel from the United States government.
At about 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2022, the LDEA stormed the SONIT Liberia’s compound and discovered a huge quantity of raw cocaine hidden among frozen goods owned by the company.
SONIT Incorporated is a frozen food company, located in Topoe Village, along the Japan Freeway. However, the company has distanced itself from the act and has since collaborated with the LDEA to effectuate the arrest. The value of the confiscated drug is about US$100 million (one hundred million United States dollars).
Following the arrest, suspect Conte admitted having a connection with the consignment and iterated that he enteed the country about two weeks ago to await the consignment.
According to the LDEA preliminary investigation, suspect Conte said he was asked by his international partners to follow the consignment and ensure that it reaches the final destination. However, he did not say whether Liberia is the final destination.
It was also established that suspect Conte arrived in the country with two other accomplices, who checked in at the Royal Grand Hotel. They later moved over to the Boulevard Palace Hotel, where the LDEA was able to pick up additional information leading toward exposing their syndicate.
Meanwhile, suspect Gustavo Henrique, a Brazilian, and Adlai Djibril, a Portuguese, who both accompanied Malam Conte, were not in their hotel room at the time of the security arrival.
Suspect Malam Conte is currently undergoing full-scale investigation, while suspects Gustavo Henrique and Adulai Djibril are on the run.
