At about 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 11, 2021 a tragic motorbike accident occurred around the Kabas’ residence, Mechlin Street, when a bike rider, Tamba Tengbeh, age 20, in an attempt to dodge a sewage hole, hit a rock, somersaulted, hit his head on a light pole and died instantly.
Tengbeh was later identified as a “jerking jerk man”. In Liberian parlance, a “jerking jerk man” is an individual involved with jerking phones and other valuables, hijacking bikes and using a bike to escape.
According to information, Tengbeh jerked a phone around the UN Drive and tried escaping the scene with his TVS bike. However, the scene became interesting when the victim used another bike to chase him.
For some minutes, they perambulated the streets of Monrovia, until they took the Mechlin Street route, using the UN Drive route to get on Mechlin Street, and headed toward Benson Street, where Tengbeh met his self-gallop.
After Tengbeh’s tragic accident, eye-witnesses informed the Hot Pepper that the victim got down from his bike, walked strictly to the lifeless criminal, went for his phone inside his pocket and left the scene.
Officers of the Liberia National Police (LNP) arrived on the scene later, but could not effect any arrest, as they had no information about those involved, and the by-standers had no concrete information about the entire scenario.
A few hours later, the father of the deceased arrived at the scene and identified his son’s body, after which the police allowed him to take delivery of it.
It is alleged that, because of Tamba Tengbeh’s loose style of living, his sister decided to purchase him the bike in order to discourage him from his bad habits. But, unknown to his sister, Tengbeh transformed the commercial bike into a criminal one, using it to carry out his criminal activities.
