The All Liberian Party (ALP), a member party of the Collaborating Political Party (CPP), is calling on the Liberian Senate not to grant the request of the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) to print a new family of banknotes in the tone of L$48 billion to replace the current currency in circulation.
Addressing reporters Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at ALP’s headquarters, the National Policy Advisor for Media Affairs, Clifton B. Hilton, said ALP believes that there can be no serious discussion on printing of additional banknotes if the outstanding forensic examination of what are clearly past transgressions by the Economic Management Team is not carried out.
“We demand the government to appoint an independent panel of accounting, finance and economic forensic expects in addressing concerned of how past monies were used. The All Liberian Party is opposed to the printing of new banknotes, even if the Government of Liberia (GOL) says it is creating a new family of Liberian dollar currency. The CBL has not demonstrated that it can fulfill its role with the series of transgressions we outlined earlier,” Clifton B. Hilton stated.
ALP says it cannot fathom another infusion of currency into the economy that will result in public monies being used for political campaigns. The party, according to Hilton, has cautioned all ALP lawmakers to be careful how to vote on national issues, especially the printing of the new banknotes. He told reporters that the party remains committed in seeking the interest of the country.
