The Chief Executive Officer of the Ma Juah Memorial Health Center, Ambassador Charles Sleyon, is seeking financial assistance to enhance productivity within the healthcare system.
Speaking during the official walk-through and commissioning program of the Ma Juah Memorial Health Center in Margibi County, Ambassador Sleyon emphasized that the establishment of the health center represents a significant milestone for Liberia’s healthcare system.
Ambassador Sleyon urged Liberians to look beyond just the infrastructure and equipment and recognize the hope the facility brings to the country’s healthcare system.
However, he also highlighted the challenges the newly established healthcare center faces, and called on the government and partners for financial assistance to address several pressing issues: a lack of medical equipment, poor road infrastructure, inadequate transportation, and unreliable electricity.
“It is with immense gratitude and pride that I welcome you all to the official walkthrough of the Ma-juah Memorial Health Center. Today is a significant milestone, not just for Margibi County but for the entire nation of Liberia. This 100-bed facility stands as a testament to what determination, collaboration, and a shared vision can achieve,” Ambassador Sleyon stated.
“As we walk through these halls, I invite you to see more than just walls and equipment: see the hope it brings to a mother seeking care for her child. See the relief it offers to an elderly patient in need of life-saving treatment. See the dream of a healthier Liberia coming to life,” he asserted.
“However, as we celebrate this achievement, we must also confront the realities that challenge our healthcare system. Across Liberia, health centers like ours face significant hurdles that threaten our ability to provide the care our people deserve.
“Despite our best efforts, we are still in need of essential medical equipment to meet the growing demand for advanced healthcare. From diagnostic tools to surgical instruments, the gaps are glaring. Imagine the frustration of a doctor unable to diagnose or treat a patient due to a lack of resources.
“The road leading to the health facility is a challenge in itself. Poor road condition hinders access for patients, staff, and emergency vehicles. For many, the journey to seek care becomes a matter of life and death. Improving these roads is not just about convenience—it’s about saving lives,” he emphasized.
“Many of our patients travel long distances, often on foot, to reach us. Without reliable transportation, those in remote areas are left without access to care. A bus to transport patients and staff would bridge this gap and extend our reach to those who need us most.”
He then appealed to the Liberia Electricity Corporation for consistent power supply, essential for any healthcare facility, citing frequent outages that disrupt critical operations, from surgeries to the storage of life-saving medicines. “A stable and reliable electricity source is not a luxury; it is a necessity for providing quality care,” he maintained.
“Today, as you walk through this center, I urge you to envision its full potential—a place where no patient is turned away, where every life is valued, and where hope is restored. But we cannot do this alone. We need your partnership, your support, and your voice to bring this vision to life.”
