The Alternative National Congress (ANC), headed by Alexander B. Cummings, has expressed appreciation to former House Speaker, Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa, for his exemplary display of integrity and respect for the law, and at the same time congratulated the newly elected Speaker of the House, Richard Koon, on his lawful election as the new Speaker of the House, describing his election as a testament to the democratic principles that underpin the nation and a reflection of the collective will of the people.
In a release issued recently, signed by its National Chairman, Lafayette E. Gould, the ANC said, “In a historic and commendable move, the Supreme Court of Liberia has played a pivotal role in resolving the legislative impasse that has gripped our nation for the past eight months. This decision marks a significant turning point, paving the way for renewed collaboration and progress within our government. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Supreme Court for their unwavering commitment to justice and the rule of law, which has illuminated the path forward for our beloved country.
“We would like to express our sincere appreciation to Former Speaker Koffa for his exemplary display of integrity and respect for the law. His decision to graciously resign has set a powerful precedent, demonstrating that true leadership is rooted in humility and a commitment to the greater good. By stepping aside, Former Speaker Koffa has allowed for a much-needed reset in the 1st branch of government, enabling us to move forward with renewed vigor and purpose.
“We extend our warmest congratulations to Speaker Richard Koon on his lawful election as the new Speaker of the House. His election is a testament to the democratic principles that underpin our nation and a reflection of the collective will of the people. Speaker Koon’s decision to listen to the trumpet of law and resign in order to undergo the proper electoral process is a commendable act of leadership. We pledge to work with Speaker Koon during his tenure, as long as we work together to uplift our people and propel our nation to new developmental heights.”
The release noted, “As we embark on this new chapter, we look forward to working with President Boakai and his administration. We recognize that the success of his government is intrinsically linked to the success of our nation and its people. By fostering a spirit of cooperation and unity, we can ensure that the aspirations of our citizens are realized and that Liberia continues to thrive.
“Nevertheless, we will not hesitate to checkmate the government when the need arises. We will remain a constructive opposition during this period.
“This momentous occasion serves as a reminder of the resilience and strength of our democracy. It is a testament to the enduring spirit of the Liberian people and our collective determination to build a brighter future. As we move forward, let us remain steadfast in our commitment to the principles of justice, equality, and progress.”
