Bea Mountain To Be ProbedForAlleged Violation Of Key Recommendation

Deputy House Speaker and Presiding Officer, Thomas Fallah, has set up an ad hoc committee to probe the management of Bea Mountain Mining Company over its violation of a key recommendation from a specialized committee.

  Plenary’s decision followed a communication from Montserrado County’s electoral district #7 Representative, Emmanuel Dahn, stating that the House specialized committee concluded in its report that the Company’s Chief Executive Officer, along with Senior Management Team, be made to appear before the honorable body to provide justifiable reasons why they should not be held liable for willfully and inexcusably violating the mineral development agreement (MDA) it signed with the Government of Liberia (GOL).

  “Honorable Speaker, distinguished colleagues, being cognizant of the power vested in the Legislature to ensure check and balance in public places and regulate investment performances in Liberia, to wit, that this communication comes to remind plenary of the aforesaid and seek its approval to invite, with immediacy, the Chief Executive Officer and Senior Management Team of Bea Mountain Mining Company (BMMC),” RepresentativeDahn stated.

  Those named on the committee include RepresentativesMichael Thomas as Chair, Taa Wongbe, Co-Chair, Julie Wiah, member, Marie Johnson, member, Sumo Mulbah and Muka Kamara. The committee is tasked to investigate and report to plenary within two weeks.
