Bong County Senator-Elect Expresses Gratitude To ArcelorMittal

Bong County Senator-elect, Johnny Kpehe, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) for their support to sports development in Liberia and for the running of the National County Sports Meet.

   In a Facebook post on Thursday, December 15, 2023, Senator-elect Kpehe praised AML’s generous contributions of $80,000 to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and US$10,000 towards the Bong County team’s participation in the County Meet, now postponed.

   Senator Kpehe commended AML’s steadfast commitment to sports development in the country, emphasizing the significant impact on athletics growth. He highlighted AML’s financial assistance, noting its crucial role in alleviating financial constraints associated with sports tournament, enabling the participating teams to focus on training and preparation without financial worries.

   Expressing gratitude, Senator Kpehe acknowledged ArcelorMittal as a vital partner in Bong County’s sports landscape and conveyed honor in having AML as a steadfast ally, appreciating the company’s commitment to sports development in Liberia.

   Senator Johnny K. Kpehe, Sr. said, “Once again, we would like to express our deepest gratitude for your continued support. We value your commitment to the growth and improvement of sports in our community, and we are honored to have you as our partner. Thank you for believing in us and for contributing to our success.”

   On Thursday, December 13, 2023, AML was announced the “Title Sponsor” of the 2023/2024 National County Sports Meet, initially scheduled for December 17, 2023. AML pledged significant financial support to the organizing committee through the Ministry of Youth and Sports, extending direct support to Nimba, Bong, and Grand Bassa counties.

   During the event in Monrovia, AML’s CEO, represented by Head of Corporate Services, Sam Steve Stevquoah, affirmed AML’s commitment as a strategic economic and development partner, emphasizing the company’s pride in supporting Liberia’s development. 

   “ArcelorMittal prides itself as a strategic partner in Liberia’s development,” Stevquoah emphasized, adding that in spite of the operational challenges in 2023 AML views the County Meet as a unifying tool. 

   Deputy Minister for Sports, Andy Quamie, commended AML for their continued support, noting the critical timing of this year’s competition after a divisive election. Quamie highlighted the unifying nature of the County Meet, emphasizing Liberians’ unity, irrespective of political affiliation, under this year’s theme, “Liberia, a Nation United Under a Purpose”.

   ArcelorMittal Liberia’s extensive history of supporting sports and youth development was noted, having been the biggest sponsor for the last two editions of the National County Sports Meet.
