The Government of the People’s Republic of China has donated a consignment of medical supplies to the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL). The consignment, which includes 9,090 packs of ribavirin injection; 1,200 packs of ribavirin tablets and 1,800 pieces of personal protective equipment (PPEs) are intended to support the Government of Liberia in tackling Lassa fever.
Making the donation at a brief ceremony on January 11, 2021 at NPHIL in Congo Town, Chinese Ambassador accredited near Monrovia, H.E. Ren Yisheng, said, “Today, on behalf of the Chinese Government, I am pleased to formally handover the Lassa Fever medication to the Liberian Government to help meet the needs and treat Lassa fever patients in Liberia.
For her part, the Director General of NPHIL, Jane MaCauley, thanked the Chinese Embassy for the quick response based on a formal request from the National Public Health Institute of Liberia, for assistance of both ribavirin injections and tablets. She assured that the donated items will be used for its intended purpose.
Dr. Francis Kateh, Chief Medical Officer of Liberia, who signed for the consignment on behalf of the Government of Liberia, praised the Government and people of China for the continuous support to the people of Liberia.
