A major internal crisis has hit the Bassa Sports Association (BSA), with some senior officials wanting to resign over alleged acts of discrimination, favoritism, and forming internal cliques within the association’s leadership.
This is said to have deepened division within the once-unified county sports body, which has for years been regarded as a key institution promoting athletic development and county unity in Grand Bassa.
According to credible reports, two officials want to tender in their resignations in protest against what they described as “a discriminatory and toxic working environment” allegedly created by some unnamed colleagues.
“We can no longer work under such conditions where decisions are made based on favoritism and personal alliances rather than the interest of the association,” one of the aggrieved members was quoted as saying. “The leadership has become divided along political and loyalty lines, and it is undermining the very purpose of the BSA.”
The situation has raised serious questions about who is actually in charge of the BSA, as internal factions appear to be forming around current Chairman Fitzgerald D. Harmon, who succeeded Montgomery earlier this year.
Some insiders believe the crisis stems from lingering political rivalry following the transition of leadership from former Chairman Montgomery to Harmon.
Montgomery, who still enjoys strong support among a section of the association’s members and stakeholders, is said to have been a unifying figure whose departure left unresolved tensions within the executive committee.
With the association now divided, concerned members and local sports observers are calling on Chairman Fitzgerald D. Harmon to take urgent steps to reconcile the warring factions and restore stability within the BSA.
“The Bassa Sports Association is too important to be allowed to crumble over internal politics,” said a veteran sports promoter in Buchanan.
The veteran urged the sport coordinating body’s leadership to act fast to bring everyone to the table before the situation gets out of control.
Despite mounting public interest, Chairman Harmon has not yet made an official statement on the imminent resignations or growing tension within his leadership team.
Meanwhile, several members of the association are reportedly calling for an emergency general meeting to address the leadership crisis and reaffirm the association’s commitment to its mission of promoting unity and sports development in Grand Bassa County.
The Bassa Sports Association (BSA) is the official sporting body representing Grand Bassa County in national competitions, such as the National County Sports Meet. It coordinates athletic programs, youth development, and local tournaments across the county.
The on-going internal conflict, observers warn, could threaten the county’s preparations for upcoming sporting events if not resolved swiftly.
