FiEFOL Urges Liberians To Prioritize Peace, Dialogue, Rule Of Law

The Field Empowerment Foundation of Liberia (FiEFOL), an outstanding non-profit organization, has called on Liberians to embrace peaceful engagement, dialogue, and respect for the rule of law in addressing dispute.

This appeal comes in the wake of the December 17 protest and the subsequent fire incident at the House of Representatives on December 18.

FiEFOL, through its flagship initiative, Students and the Rule of Law, in a press statement issued over the weekend expressed deep concern over the recent events, emphasizing the need to safeguard Liberia’s democratic institutions.

The organization noted that while peaceful protests are a Constitutional right, they should not consider violence and destruction, which undermine the rule of law and threaten the country’s fragile peace. “These incidents are a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining democratic processes. We must condemn any act that jeopardizes our democratic institutions and work together to uphold the principles of nonviolence and accountability,” FiEFOL stated in its press release.

The foundation urged all stakeholders, including the leadership of the House of Representatives, protest organizers, and the general public to prioritize open and transparent dialogue as the primary means of resolving grievances.

FiEFOL’s Students & the Rule of Law program, which promotes peace and nonviolence among Liberia’s youth, is central to its peacebuilding effort.

The organization said they believe that engaging young people in discussions about conflict prevention and the rule of law is critical to fostering a society rooted in dialogue, respect, and unity. “As future leaders, young Liberians must lead by example,” FiEFOL noted.

“We encourage students to embody the principles of nonviolence, respect for human rights, and solidarity, which are essential for a just and peaceful society.”

The foundation further announced plans to intensify its peace education activities, focusing on raising awareness about the rule of law, promoting nonviolence in schools and communities, and equipping students with conflict resolution skills.

At the same time, FiEFOL has reiterated its commitment to advancing peace, justice, and the rule of law across Liberia.

The organization called on Liberians to unite in protecting the nation’s hard-won peace, and strengthen democratic values.

Founded in 2020 and formally registered in 2023, FiEFOL has been at the forefront of empowering communities through education, health, water sanitation and hygiene (WASH), and peacebuilding initiatives. Its work aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and aims to drive positive social change across Liberia.
