Barely a week after fire killed three residents of Nippy Town On Tuesday, August 4, 2020, again, on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, at about 9:45 a.m., a tragic fire gutted a 10-bedroom zinc-house in the community, leaving over forty persons homeless.
An eyewitness told Hot Pepper that a sound of the fire raised alarm and caused several residents to come to the recuse of the community.
According to Theophilus Jomah, a victim, when he got outside of his room to drink his tea he saw the whole place blazing with fire, disclosing that he could not go into the building because there was only one entrance, which was blocked.
He said the compound has about 10-dedroom along with other houses, which were saved by the effort of the community members who prevented the fire from extending to the other houses in the compound.
Jomah said no human casualties were reported but several valuable properties were destroyed in the fire. He used the opportunity to call on humanitarians and people of goodwill to come to their assistance, noting that all of their belongings have been destroyed by the fire.
It can recalled that during the early hours of last Tuesday, August 4, 2020, at about 2:00 a.m., residents of Nippy Town woke up to a tragic fire incident that gutted a 2-bedroom zinc-house in the community, leaving three persons dead and many homeless. The victims were Fatumata Watson, 18, Robota Davis, 14, and Prince Watson, 11.
Several residents of Old Road stood in shock as the leadership of the community, police, along with other family members buried the three children shortly after, in keeping with Islamic law, which says a person must be buried as soon as possible after death, usually within 24 hours.
So many curious onlookers had made their way to the scene that the police had to grapple with the crowd to make way for the pick-up that was carrying the children for burial to pass through.
