The Government of Liberia (GOL), through the National Steering Committee for the At-Risk Youth Program, has commenced voluntary recruitment of about one thousand at-risk youth for rehabilitation. At the start of the recruitment, Minister Zeogar Wilson, who is the National Chairman for the Steering Committee, said the move is in fulfilment of the government’s commitment.
Minister Wilson described the start of the At-Risk Youth program as boost intended to reunite the young people and make them productive citizens.
He extended thanks and appreciation to President George Manneh Weah and the One UN for their support towards the at-risk youth program.
Meanwhile, some of the at-risk youth expressed delight for the government’s farsightedness. They recounted their willingness to get rehabilitated in order to be useful citizens in order to help with the development of the country.
In June 2022 the government launched the At-Risk Youth Program, intended to take Liberian children who are addicted to drugs off the streets.
