–Principal Yahya A. Kiazolu Discloses
The Imam Abdullah A. Tunis Islamic Institute located in Vai Town, Bushrod Island, is this weekend expected to hold it 34th Graduation Exercise.
The principal of the institution, Yahya A. Kiazolu, told the Hot Pepper on Thursday July 11, 2024 at his Vai Town Bushrod Island office that the school is expected to graduate sixty (60) students from the kindergarten class in English and Arabic, while from the junior high 25 students will be graduated.
According to him, the students met all of the requirements of the institution before graduation. Principal Yahya A. Kiazolu stated that the challenge, over the period of time, the institution has been faced with is the slow payment of school fees by parents/guardians due to the economic hardship in the country.
He informed the public that over the years the teachers have been doing their best impacting quality and sound education into the students of the institution. The Imam Abdullah A. Tunis Islamic Institute principal disclosed that the school has met all of it requirements from the Government of Liberia (GOL) to operate as an institution.
He told the Hot Pepper further that during the past administration of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf the institution received subsidy from the government, but now it is the little school fees they collect from parents that they use to pay teachers, pay rent, buy stationary and other things.
Principal Kiazolu stated that they are trying to extend the institution to senior high school, and used the occasion to call on the government and goodwill organizations in the country to help them in this direction.
The principal stated that currently they have about 29 teachers at the institution, 14 out of whom are Arabic teachers and the other 15 English teachers.
He called on the parents to help the school’s administration monitor their children’s education, and also called on them to see reason to pay their school fees on time.
“Our great role model, Imam Abdullah A. Tunis, former Lecturer, Political Science Department, University of Liberia, was born in 1956. Imam Abdullah A. Tunis had passion for education. He thought it wise to establish a school to help our dear brothers, sisters, and children to acquire the knowledge that would make them to be responsible and respectful leaders for tomorrow,” he disclosed. “He established the Imam Abdullah A. Tunis Islamic Institute. The Imam Abdullah A. Tunis was founded on February 6, 1986. His hallmark brings to our memories his passion, love, vision and willingness to help the nation. Unfortunately, he died on June 6, 1989. May Allah shower blessings upon him.”
