Integrate Climate Change Education

The Environmental Manager of the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC), Sennay Carlor, III, has underscored the need to integrate climate change education at national and international levels

According to Carlor, as COP27, recently held in Egypt, left nobody behind, world leaders, stakeholders, experts and technicians should seek to fight against climate change through education.

Manager Carlor made the assertion on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, noting that the impact of climate change is affecting several countries around the world, including Liberia

He noted that mitigation and adaptation of climate change requires the requisite education of the climate system to create adequate awareness concerning the changing pattern of the weather.

Manager Carlor maintained that, to sustain the fight against climate change on living things and non-living things, preventive action should be put in place to curtail its impact on society.

He stated that voluntary action should be encouraged to highlights the danger of destroying the forest and the environment, as well as taking measures to mitigate the impact in the country.

According to him, Liberia’s Nationally Determines Contribution (NDC) Sector needs attention to prevent the impact of climate change in agriculture, energy, fishery, industry, health, waste and transport.

Manager Carlor asserted that Liberia’s NDC plan was underscored at COP-27 in Egypt by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of Liberia, which intends to reduce the Greenhouse Gases Emission (GGE) across the nine sectors.

He pointed out that the NDC serves as a basic tool in the fight against climate change in Liberia. He emphasized that coordination and collaboration with stakeholders, including partnership, will go a long way to enhance climate change education in the nation.

Manager Carlor added that accountability and transparency are crucial factors to ensure the sustainability of the fight against climate change.
