After nearly 31 years in perpetual darkness, JDR community has been supplied with electricity for the first time since the unanticipated civil unrest erupted in 1989 and crumbled the fabrics of all sectors of the Liberian society. The residents of the community, who went gay by the electrification of the community, have since been raining praises on the administration of President George M. Weah and jubilating in different manners and forms.
The residents explained how fearful their community appeared at night and how they were coerced to go indoors as soon as darkness fell, noting that seeing the community electrified is a long-awaited dream come true.
JDR community is located in New Georgia, Gardnersville, with a population of over 1,000 residents and about five hundred houses.
Speaking to the Hot Pepper, the former Chairman of the JDR Community’s ad-hoc election commission, Lawrence Fahnbulleh, said taking electricity to their community after almost 31 years in darkness is a clear manifestation that President Weah and the CDC government means well for the ordinary masses.
“It is an undeniable fact that electricity left our community since October 1990, and is under your astute leadership as President of the Republic of Liberia that we have again received electricity in October 2021, nearly 31 years after. This, we promise you, will never be forgotten,” Fahnbulleh noted.
“We can assure you, Mr. President, that what we have not had over 30 years will be protected to the core because we believe that through electricity our children will be able to read their notes and make successful pass in school.
“We can also assure you, Mr. President, that when the duxes of the WASSC Exam, which you paid for are being counted, you will have students from the JDR community that will be a part of the list,” Fahnbulleh, who is also the Press and Public Affairs Director at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism, guaranteed.
He thanked President Weah for putting their community on par with other communities in urban Monrovia, and said the gesture will go a long way in keeping the people of JDR community happy and hopeful of a better tomorrow.
Meanwhile, scores of JDR community residents have expressed joy for seeing their community electrified again, and thanked President Weah for electrifying their community. “We will remember you in your future endeavors just as you have remembered us and our community,” the residents assured President Weah.
