Amid enormous health challenges that Liberia has faced from time to time, with most referral hospitals lacking of the necessary medical supplies to timely tackle the maternity needs of infants, the Joseph Nyumah Boakai (JNB) Foundation has donated several incubators to the JFK hospital’s Maternity Center aimed at reducing the infant mortality rate.
The donation of the incubators was witnessed by several doctors at the JFK hospital, including the head and nurses of the hospital’s maternity center.
Receiving the donated incubators December 2, 2024 at the JFK, the hospital’s Administrator, Linda Birch, expressed gratefulness, adding that with the provision of the equipment the infant mortality rate at the hospital will reduce drastically.
She explained that prior to the provision of the incubators the infant mortality rate had spiked uncontrollably at the hospital’s maternity center due to what she termed the spilling over of infection from one infant to the next due to the fact that the infants used one incubator at the same time.
“The infant mortality rate has been on the increase at the hospital, a troubling situation, which has over time impeded the improvement of infant maternity at the JFK hospital,” Doctor Birch said.
She then said with the provision of the incubators she had no doubt that doctors and nurses at the hospital’s maternity center would readily and effectively carry out their duties to save the lives of newly born infants.
Dr. Emmanuel Tamba, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at the JFK hospital, said the incubators donated by the JNB Foundation would significantly impact the hospital’s maternity center.
He observed that the donation was timely, quickly pointing out that infants’ mothers can now be assured of safe and productive maternity.
Dr. Tamba then promised that the equipment would be used for the intended purpose, accomplished by full and effective maintenance.
