The Joint Legislative Committee on Ways, Means, Finance, Budget and Development Planning has officially commenced the expenditure hearings of FY2023 draft national budget.
The expenditure hearings, which are public, will witness line ministries and agencies of government providing performance reports of the previous year.
Speaking during the opening ceremony Tuesday, February 9, 2023, the Chairman of the Joint Committee, Representative Thomas P. Fallah, reminded those in attendance that the Liberian people are eagerly looking forward to the National Legislature to deliberate on the FY2023 proposed draft national budget, the second since the country transitioned from a fiscal year budget to a calendar year budget, in such a way that will derive outcomes geared towards promoting their wishes and aspirations, with the goal of raising their living standards.
“It gives me great pleasure to once again welcome all of you to this familiar forum where we come to perform our Constitutional mandate of budget scrutiny and approval,” he said.
He urged his colleagues to remain resolute in thoroughly scrutinizing the national instrument, in order to justify the confidence that the Liberian People have reposed in them.
Meanwhile, the joint committee has called on line ministries and agencies to follow and adhere to the updated budget hearing schedule released by the Legislative Budget Office (LBO), in order to expeditiously pass the country’s national development envelope.
