The National Elections Commission (NEC) has notified the National Legislature that the biometric equipment for the voter registration process, which is slated for March 20, 2023, has not arrived in the country.
The commission’s notification was contained in a communication to the House of Representatives, dated February 17, 2023 and under the signature of its Chairperson, Davidetta Browne Lansanah.
“I convey compliments on behalf of the National Elections Commission (NEC), and write to inform your honorable office that the biometric equipment for the Voter Registration has not arrived in the county,” Browne Lansanah’s communication stated.
According to her, in consultation with the technicians, it is possible to conduct testing of the system in the presence of members of the Legislature, and will revert on the timeframe for such joint demonstration.
Meanwhile, the plenary of the House of Representatives has mandated its leadership committee to take seize of a notification from the National Elections Commission (NEC), stating delay in procuring biometric equipment for the voter registration.
