Liberian women from cross-sections of the country under the banner, “Women of Liberia”, on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 sympathized with the Former Chief Justice of Liberia, Gloria Musu-Scott, for the loss of her daughter during the attack at her residence in Brewerville.

According to the Executive Director of the Women-Non Governmental Organizations Secretariat of Liberia (WONGOSOL), Esther Davis Yango, Liberian women are living in fear and are unprotected as a result of unexplained deaths around the nation.

Yango stated that it is unfortunate that Liberian women have been attacked in several forms and abuse, without any justice for the victims. She indicated that Liberian women should demand justice for the murder of the daughter of former Chief Justice Scott and others who have been killed.

According to her, Liberian women should rise up to ensure that their lives are protected, which is the right of every citizen under the law.

Meanwhile, the Noble Laureate, Leymah Gbowee, said it is time for women in Liberia to pray for God to protect them against attacks. Gbowee stated that Liberians should seek the face of God to ensure peace and stability for the nation.

She underscored that Liberian Women should stand in solidarity with the Former Chief Justice Scott, and they should continue to visit her during this critical times.

For her part, the Chairperson of the National Civil Society Council of Liberia, Loretta A. Pope-Kai, said as a movement they will continue to stand for justice, peace, equality, and enough is enough for violence against Liberian women.

Pope-Kai emphasized that action should  be taken against the perpetrators for the several killings around the country.

She indicated that Liberian women are unprotected, and everything should be done to put a stop to this unwholesome act against women in Liberia.

“We will not sit and normalize violence against women. We will not keep silent when one of us is hurt. You touch one, you touch all. We are here to reaffirm and continue to say enough is enough. No to violence and no to war on women,” she maintained.

In a related development, the Chairperson of the  Women Legislative Caucus, Grand Bassa County Senator, Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence, said thousands of Liberian women should jump on the streets to demand protection and justice from the relevant authorities.

Senator Lawrence underscored that women should take charge of their plight to ensure that they and their children are protected against untimely death.

She noted that the justice system in Liberia lacks the capacity to actually protect lives and properties under the leadership of the Justice Ministry and the Liberia National Police (LNP).
