The Liberia National Union (LINU) has expressed deep concern over the removal of Speaker Koffa, and called for greater accountability in upholding Constitutional principles and democratic practices in Liberia.
“LINU notes with alarm reports of the Minister of Justice’s misinterpretation of the Supreme Court’s ruling and the Executive’s apparent support for the Speaker’s removal. Actions such as these undermine the independence of our democratic institutions and erode public trust in governance,” a LINU press release said.
LINU stated that the timing of Speaker Koffa’s removal, during his absence on an official trip with the President, raises serious concerns about due process. While leadership changes within the Legislature are part of a healthy democracy, LINU underscored that such actions must align with the rule of law, transparency, and respect for Constitutional procedure.
“Furthermore, LINU is concerned that the current administration, which campaigned on promises of reform and good governance, but is now engaging in actions that appear to contradict those commitments. We urge President Boakai and his government to recommit to fostering a political environment rooted in integrity, collaboration, and respect for the separation of powers.
“Liberia deserves a leadership that prioritizes the nation’s progress over political maneuvering. We call on all stakeholders to act in the best interest of the Liberian people and ensure that democratic principles are preserved,” LINU maintained.
