The Liberia Land Authority (LLA) has allegedly refused to conduct an investigative survey on the Zena family estate on the GSA Road, Paynesville, outskirts of Monrovia.
According to the Co-Administrator of the Zena family property, Anthony Cole, two officials of the Land Dispute and Resolution Department were expected to conduct an investigative survey to determine the boundaries between the Zena family property and the community on Zena Hill, but the LLA is yet to conduct the survey, which continues to cause land dispute among the community dwellers and the administrator.
Administrator Cole made the disclosure recently in Paynesvillle.
He alleged that the Assistant Director of the Land Dispute and Resolution Department of LLA, Paul A. Tolbert, and Wilson Akoto asked them to pay the amount of US$1,500 to conduct the investigative survey to resolve the land confusion among the community dwellers and the Zena family.
He indicated that since they paid the money to Director Tolbert and Akoto, the LLA has failed to conduct the investigative survey. According to him, the failure of LLA to perform its task to resolve land conflict is undermining the principles for the establishment of the entity to avoid land conflict in Liberia.
He explained that the investigative survey will indicate the clear demarcation of the Zena family property and other properties in the community, but LLA is yet to perform this responsibility to ensure calm and peace among the people.
Administrator Cole underscored that, of the US$1,500.00 collected by the LLA, the community dwellers were asked to pay US$500.00, while the Zena family was asked to pay US$1,000.00, which he described as unfair to the family.
He noted that LLA attempted to conduct the investigative survey once but some community dwellers who are occupying land illegally disrupted the process, and since than LLA has not made any attempt to conduct the investigative survey on Zena Hill, which is causing serious problems in the community.
He said it is about time for the authorities of LLA to pay attention to land disputes within the Zena Hill community to prevent major land conflict among the people.
Meanwhile, when contacted, Director Tolbert referred journalists to Commissioner Kula Jackson, who declined to comment on the matter.
