Lonestar Cell MTN Liberia, in Collaboration with the National Old Folks of Liberia, has kicked off a 21-day Yello Care training for older people in digitalization.
The training is being held under the theme, “Empowering Local Entrepreneurs and Driving Economic Growth through Digitalization Entrepreneurship”.
Speaking Thursday in Monrovia at the opening ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of Lonestar Cell MTN, Rahul De, stated that the power of the internet is critical to economic growth through entrepreneurship.
De underscored that Yello Care is a platform under the Heroes of Change program, and has 17 operations which have been implemented in countries in the Middle East, North Africa and Africa, as well as Liberia, to empower locals in communities in their respective countries.
According to him, the month of June is a special month for Lonestar Cell MTN: the company gives back to communities dwellers within its operation areas around the globe.
He maintained that it is important to empower elderly people with digital skills that they may be informed and educated on issues on the global stage as well as network with other entrepreneurs through varied online platforms to enhance their businesses and partnerships across the world.
De indicated that the Heroes of Change Program is a merit-based platform which allows any individual to apply without any difficulty.
He asserted that the social media should be used responsibly rather than abusively, noting that people should be responsible. He pointed out that the beneficiaries would use the digital skill learned to teach others in their respective communities.
Meanwhile, the Corporate and Corporate Social Initiative Manager of Lonestar Cell MTN, Lisa White, said empowering local entrepreneurs and driving economic growth is the collective commitment of every Liberian.
White stated that, while embarking on a journey of digital transformation, the wisdom of elderly people merges with the passion and creativity of the young people.
“Together, we will pave the way for a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem that benefits the people and the community as a whole,” she added.
According to her, “Yello Care will celebrate your achievements, share their stories and amplify their impact, which will strengthen the backbone of our economy as well as pave the way for a brighter future for all.
“Let us leverage the power of our diversity to drive innovation and create an inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem where everyone has the chance to thrive,” White maintained.
For his part, the Executive Director of the National Old Folks of Liberia, Momo Allison Bainda, said elderly people should take advantage of the Yello Care training to advance their digital skills. Director Bainda noted that this digital training for elderly people is the first of its kind in Liberia.
He asserted that digitalization entrepreneurship will go a long way in improving their online accesses, and expressed thanks and appreciation to Lonestar Cell MTN for the opportunity for elderly people in Liberia.
Director Bainda underscored that more than 100 elderly people are expected to be trained in digital entrepreneurship.
