The Monrovia City Corporation (MCC), headed by Mayor Jefferson Tamba Koijee, on Thursday, February 16, 2023 celebrated the 44th Monrovia Day. The program was held at the Providence Island; Cynthia Quinisier reports.

Making remarks at the celebration of the Monrovia Day, Mayor Koijee said, “We celebrate once again Monrovia Day, a day set aside to present the state of affairs of our great city and the progress made in the previous years and delve deep into plans for the future.”

According to him, the occasion was mandated by laws governing the city, and that the celebration is intended to go beyond the successes of the city and speak to the challenges and mutual relationships from residents in making Monrovia a place to live and feel comfortable.

The 44th Monrovia Day, the fifth since Mayor Koijee took over as City Mayor, was graced by national actors, including traditional leaders, students, women groups and officials of government.

“Given the indelible marks we have and continue to leave on our city and the global community, by September this year mayors from around the globe, under the umbrella, ‘Global Parliament of Mayors’, will hold a conference in our city,” Mayor Koijee disclosed.

According to him, the program is expected to enhance tourism, boost the economy and put people to work, as well as bring a light on Monrovia city.

He said the program will focus on city governance, progress made globally and see actions taken towards city ordinance, climate change and other developmental drives.

He emphasized that Liberians should keep the peace because it is one of the most important things needed in the country.

Meanwhile, Mayor Koijee has cautioned Liberians to continue to keep Monrovia clean, safe and green.
