The Monrovia City Corporation (MCC), through its Chesemanburg Landfill Urban Sanitation Project (CLUS) Project Implementation Unit (PIU), on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at the Paynesville City Hall donated several chemical materials to the management of Paynesville City Corporation (PCC) as fulfillment of CLUS Project’s commitment to giving support to the Paynesville City Cooperation (PCC) for solid waste management.
The items which were donated included 1 cartoon of Deltamethrin, 4 cartoons of Chlorpyrifos and 10 Cartoons of Fresta Milk, to provide support for the city of Paynesville in controlling insects and air pollution arising as a result of waste from various collections sites.
Making remarks at the ceremony, the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) CLUS Project Coordinator, Atty. Edwin Johnson, said the donation was in fulfillment of CLUS Project’s commitment to giving support to the cities of Monrovia, Paynesville and its surrounding environments in terms of solid waste collection, disposal and other environmental issues.
According to Atty Johnson, the items are meant to fumigate waste at collection points within the City of Paynesville and to curve the issue of insects that would create health hazards to the residents.
“It has been established over a period of time that the two cities have been challenged when it comes to the regular timing removal of waste from collection points and, with such a condition, it seeks to transition into insects,. So, the project, being consistent, we thought it wise to provide chemical to the city of Paynesville,” Atty. Edwin Johnson said.
He maintained that prior to the donation of the materials, they have trained environmentalists how to use the various chemicals in spraying where garbage have been deposited after collection of the waste, in order to keep the various collection sites clean to prevent health hazards.
Meanwhile, the Acting Mayoress of the Paynesville City Cooperation, Hawa D. Sheriff Donbah, extolled MCC, through the CLUS Project, for the donations over the time past, which she said would help in combating insects that are posing danger to the collection of garbage in environments.
“I’m excited today, as this is not the first time for said donations. We have received tricycles, front-end loaders and several others items from Project Implementation Unit(PIU), which is welcoming. We also want to appreciate them for the items, as it will be used to keep all of the collection sites clean after the waste is collected,” Acting Mayoress Donbah stated.
