Members of the Nimba Bar Association on Saturday, November 13, 2021 elected a new corps of officers to stir the affairs of the bar for the next three years. The election took place in Paynesville, at the residence of Atty. Saye Gbalaza.
Those elected officials are Cllr. Awia Vankan, President; Atty. Allen F. Gweh, Vice President; Atty. Emmanuel T. Tomah, Secretary General; and Atty. Alice Kenkpen Sirleaf, Treasurer. The four elected officials of the Nimba Bar Association were all elected on white ballots. Cllr. Vankan and his elected officials are serving the bar for a second term.
Atty. Worlea Saywah Dunah chaired the election committee, while Atty. Migbeh Gbatodor and Musa S. Siding served as Co-Chair and Secretary to Atty. Dunah, respectively. According to the election committee, nobody expressed interest in the three-member Audit Committee. The election committee told the Hot Pepper over the weekend that the leadership of the Nimba Bar Association will be informed when declaration is made by any member of the Bar for the Audit Committee position.
Cllr. Vankan has assured his colleagues of the construction of headquarters for the bar association in Nimba County. According to him, the construction of the bar’s headquarters is paramount to his administration and, therefore, needs the collective effort of every member. He promised to continue with the legal awareness and education to the indigent. The process, he disclosed, will enable citizens to know their rights despite their financial standing.
He admonished his colleague lawyers to collectively work with his leadership in transforming the Nimba Bar Association, and commanded them for again reposing confidence in him to serve such a legal body for the next three years.
The Nimba Bar Association is a member of the Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA). The National Bar Association was established in 1907. LNBA is expected to go for election shortly to elect a new corps of officers. Cllr. Tiawon Gongloe is the current President of the Liberia National Bar Association.
