The National Patriotic Party (NPP) has vehemently opposed what they described as President Joseph Boakai appointment of public officials, which they say is being done on the basis of party. The NPP voiced that they have noticed that majority of appointments made by President Boakai are party-bent.
The former ruling party further criticized President Boakai for allegedly offering jobs to his kinsmen, while qualified Liberians who want to offer their services to government for the growth and development of the nation state are said to be left out.
The utterances were made by the National Chairman of the NPP, Cllr. George Mulbah, yesterday when he addressed the media in the Charles Ghankay Taylor Conference Room in Oldest Congo Town on a number of key national issues unfolding in the country since the seating of the Unity Party-led government.
Cllr. Mulbah said, for the sake of unity and national reconciliation, following at least six months of the Boakai government in office, it was needless for the Chief Executive to appoint people in his government, who are his partisans, shunning professionals or qualified Liberians who want to patriotically contribute their quota to nation building.
The NPP national chairman opined that President Boakai needs to exhibit good leadership traits by transcending party-line in his nominations and appointments of public officials in government.
At the same time, Cllr. Mulbah frowned at the recent deployment of AFL soldiers at the arrival ceremony at the Roberts International Airport (RIA) of former President George Weah, which almost exploded into violence. He explained that such a move by the ruling party was a threat to the peaceful assemble of partisans of the erstwhile Congress for Democratic Change (CDC).
Cllr. Mulbah further explained that insecurity is allegedly gradually engulfing the nation, and the issue must be addressed by the power-that-be. He further called for the respect for the rule of law by every Liberian to keep the country peaceful.
The NPP chairman also pondered why, as yet, the investigating committee in the LDEA saga is reneging on releasing its findings from the investigation. “LDEA investigation report is far over-due following three months of the setting up of the committee by President Boakai. Let the report be made public,” Cllr. Mulbah called.
He further called for clarity from government on the operation of Western Cluster Company, which is raising eyebrows in the public due to recent development unfolding in the country. The NPP national chairman entreated President Boakai’s administration to be bold in its decision by telling Liberians whether the company is operating legally or illegally in the country in order to disabuse the minds of the citizenry.
With the securing of the 285 yellow earth-moving machines and the take on the matter by the NPP, Cllr. Mulbah said the party is not opposed to the shipment of machines, but wants the government do all in its power by putting together the necessary documents to ensure the complete arrival of the remaining equipment, since it did not readily go through the PPCC prescribed regulations initially.
He said the country needs the earth-moving machines to build roads across Liberia, to boost trade and commerce, allowing for citizens and foreign residents to ply various routes without hindrance.
He termed those who are opposing the yellow machines as unpatriotic politicians not wanting to see road connectivity across the fifteen political sub-divisions of Liberia improved and paved, as they are doing so for their personal selfish motives.
“Construction of state-of the-art roads throughout Liberia is an issue of challenge for the government under the leadership of President Boakai,” the NPP Chairman underscored.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the NPP said it is disgusted over the manner in which the government is said to be proceeding and failing to close ranks with opposition political parties and other Liberians here and in the diaspora who are not in government but want to offer their services, in order to jump-start the process of national healing and genuine reconciliation.
He said during the program marking Liberia’s 177th Independence Day event, some members of the opposition bloc in attendance at the Centennial Pavilion, Ashmun Street, Monrovia, were not accorded the due respect by the protocol, lest to mention extending of an official invitation to the NPP to grace the occasion.
Regarding the indictment of some former officials of the CDC-led administration, the NPP Chairman voiced that the move by the UP government must be done holistically and not directed at certain former government individuals in society.
Cllr. Mulbah took off time during his chat with newsmen to lament the filthiness of parts of the nation’s capital, Monrovia, which he indicated is tantamount to somewhat causing the outbreak of illnesses and infections of all kinds in the city.
He then called on the office of the city mayor of Monrovia to wake up in finding a remedy to the “dirtiness” of the nation’s capital, in order to avoid the outbreak of a pandemic in the nation.
