The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Theresa Nah Institute of Health Science and Technology, Sgt. Eric Oppong Twum, says he and his wife, Sierra Twum, are committed to providing solutions to issues confronting the improvement of the education sector.
Twum, who is based in South Korea, said he and his wife believe that the best way of helping Liberia is by addressing issues confronting the country’s growth and development.
Already, the education sector was described as a “mess” by former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
Twum said the establishment of the Theresa Nah Institute of Health Science and Technology was meant to strengthen the health sector of Liberia through quality programs. Currently, the institution offers certified nursing assistant (CNA) program, and is said to be one of the best nursing institutions in Liberia.
According to him, the institution also provides training in other areas of learning, such as chemical technology, which requires the production of various products; computer programs, electrical engineering, decoration, sewing and pastry. He noted that the objective of the initiative is to create more entrepreneurs in the country.
Twum stated that he does not believe in what his country can do for him; rather, what he can do for his motherland. He used the occasion to call on Liberians at home and abroad to begin thinking about what they can do for their country, in order to address the numerous challenges confronting the country’s growth and development.
He said his attention has been drawn to the division of labor within the health sector. According to him, in Liberia, anyone can be called a registered nurse because they can give injection and administer medicines to patients. However, he said, nursing is a profession that requires more time, and not understanding the procedure of first aid makes a person a qualified nurse.
Twum mentioned that he and his family are much more interested in providing solutions to societal issues.
As a Liberian based in America and South Korea, he said he goes from one point to another to find means of bringing help to his home country, Liberia.
He disclosed that a plan is underway by authorities of the Theresa Nah Institute of Health Science and Technology to upgrade the institution to an Associate of Art Degree (AA) level very soon. He stated that fees for the nursing program are affordable, and that the chemical technology program is offered free of charge.
For his part, the President of the institution, Moses Bundor, Sr., praised the founders of the institution for providing quality programs to help address the challenges affecting the Liberian society.
Bundor urged Liberians to take advantage of the opportunity provided them through the Theresa Nah Institute of Health Science and Technology.
The school is located in Nicklay Town, Rehab Road, district #2, Montserrado County.
