The Pastor of the Third Providence Baptist Church, Rev. S.E. Emmanuel Ward, has appealed to President George Manneh Weah to accept the establishment of a war and economic crimes court in Liberia.
Rev. Ward said the establishment of the court will set precedence in preventing would-be war mongers and economic criminals. He noted that he was surprised that some Liberians are still electing warlords to the Senate and the House of Representatives to represent the families of those they murdered during the war.
He said he wants the government to establish an economic crimes court because many government officials are corrupt, and that doing so could minimize, if not eradicate, the corruption in the society.
According to him, electing former rebels into the National Legislature should be stopped, in the interest of the country, and called on Liberians to also refrain from electing very poor people to minimize the massive corruption in government.
Pastor Ward made the statement when he delivered his regular worship sermon on Sunday, on the theme, “Stay on Track”, Psalms 37:23—25 and Philippians 3:13—14.
He said the time has come for government officials to stay on track, do away with corruption and formulate strategies that will improve the living standard of the people. He maintained that the manner in which government officials are conducting the affairs of the state has the potential of discouraging the electorate from voting for them.
