The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and President of the Republic of Liberia, George M. Weah, over the weekend commissioned thirty-three graduates of the AFL recruitment training, urging the officer-candidates to remain focused and persevere as they begin their new military careers.
President Weah cautioned the graduates to see themselves as professional career officers and lead by example, as other colleagues will look up to them for guidance and professional leadership.
Making remarks on behalf of the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of Liberia at the commissioning ceremony, the Minister of States for Presidential Affairs, Wesseh Blamo, challenged the graduates to uphold their loyalty to the Constitution and maintain high standards in carrying out their respective duties.
Minister Blamo described the commissioning of the officers in varied disciplines as a significant milestone in the history of the country.
According to him, the graduates should be loyal to the Constitution at all times and be constantly prepared to safeguard the territorial integrity of the great nation and defend its interest, emphasizing that national interest must always be first.
He said that the CIC of the Armed Forces of Liberia also underscored the need for the AFL to be seen as the “people’s soldiers” as they exercise their responsibility.
Meanwhile, President Weah has also pledged government’s commitment to providing all the necessary support in ensuring that the AFL remains a “Force for Good”.
The thirty-three professionals were trained in various disciplines, including anesthesia, general surgeon, public health as well as government politics and policy.
According to the head of the Armed Forces Training Command, the exercise began in 2022 with a vigorous recruitment drive, in line with the Constitution of Liberia and the New Defense Act.
He also noted that the training was carried out in phases, and each phase ended with a written exam.
The occasion, which took place at the Barclay Training Center in Monrovia, brought together government ministers, ambassadors, the AFL Chief of Staff, para-military officers, family members, etc.
