Nimba County’s district #5 Representative and Chairman of the People’s Unification Party (PUP), Samuel G. Kogar, has called on the young people of Liberia to make a wise decision come 2023 between the ruling party, Coalition For Democratic Change (CDC), and the opposition bloc for the betterment of Liberia.
PUP National Chairman Kogar made the statement on Friday, October 15, 2021 at the Unity Party (UP)’s headquarters in Congo Town during the turning over ceremony of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) Chairmanship from Senator, Nyonbelee Karnga Lawrence, Liberty Party (LP), to Ambassador Joseph N. Boakai, Unity Party (UP).
At the same occasion, Chairman Kogar told the youth of the country that the 2023 legislative and presidential elections are critical to the growth and development of the country. “You need to put your thinking cap on as young people for the next presidential election,” he said.
The Nimba County district #5 lawmaker emphasized that the PUP is mostly interested in producing more legislators in the Liberian Senate and the House of Representatives. According to Representative Kogar, “The Legislature is key to the functioning of every government and changes that this country can easily make if you have nationalistic individuals representing their people.”
For his part, the former Vice President and the Standard Bearer of the Unity Party, Joseph N. Boakai, called for stronger ties among the four Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) amid political rigmarole that engulfed the collaboration, with claims and counterclaims over alleged framework alteration.
The tension among the parties heightened of late as the Unity Party prepared to take over from the Liberty Party, which saw the Chairman and Secretary General of the LP taking aback by the procedure in which the transfer of leadership was being conducted.
Alternative National Congress (ANC), one of the constituent parties to the CPP, also expressed dissatisfaction over their exclusion from the process, leading them to boycotting the event. Ambassador Boakai, who is competing for the standard bearership of the CPP on the ticket of the Unity Party, has called on his colleagues who are disenchanted to not allow their political differences and internal wrangling to divide the CPP.
“Fellow Liberians, the past few months have been fraught with difficulties, creating anxiety in the public and a sense of implosion within the CPP. We recognize these challenges, which have occasioned internal wrangling and a distasteful impression,” Ambassador Boakai stated. “However, we implore you to not allow differences and internal wrangling to define the CPP, no matter how contentious they have become. This is because social, economic or political conflicts are events that can be transformed into good.”
According to him, only an unerringly commitment and dedication to a daring cause can enable the CPP to collectively remain poised to win in 2023.
