Bong County’s district #3 Representative, J. Marvin Cole, Co-Chair on Rules, Order and Administration at the House of Representatives, has submitted to plenary for legislative enactment an act to provide and expand educational opportunities and to mandate free tuition education at all public secondary schools in Liberia, to be known as the Dr. Joseph Saye Guanue Free Secondary Education Act.
According to the bill submitted by Representative Cole, at this stage in the history of Liberia it is a known fact that education plays a vital role in ensuring the well-being and economic emancipation of the people of Liberia.
“It is against this backdrop that we have decided to advance this piece of legislation that will provide opportunities and access to mass education for our young people, as mandated in the general principles of our Constitution,” the bill further explained.
According to the Bong County lawmaker’s bill, if the bill is legislated it will alleviate the financial burdens parents across the country face in sending their children to school.
Representative Cole’s bill further explained that the intent of naming the bill after Dr. Joseph Saye Guanue is his tremendous contributions to the nation.
“When this bill is passed into law it will be called the Dr. Joseph Saye Guanue Free Secondary Education Act,” the bill intimated.
After the reading of the bill in session on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, a motion was made by Rivercess County Representative, Byron W. Zawea, that the bill be turned over to the Committees on ways, Means, Finance and Development, Judiciary and Education to report upon their return.
