River Gee County’s district #3 Representative, Francis Saidy Dopoh, has disclosed that, in order to have an effective engagement with citizens of his constituency he needs full support in the national budget.
Addressing several citizens recently in Monrovia as it relates to the Legislative Engagement Funds, Representative Dopoh informed the gathering that lawmakers do not benefit; the citizens do, and as a result voice their opinions and participate in decision-making, which helps legislators take pulse of community, make better decisions, solve constituent’s problems and gain political allies as well as undertake approved projects.
Representative Dopoh lamented that, even with the acknowledged benefits, legislators encounter challenges when seeking to have meaningful and deliberate acquaintances with their constituents.
He further explained that the recent US$15,000 engagement funds received was meant to strengthen the effort being made toward several projects within his district and bolster on-going response efforts, helping the country’s most vulnerable to overcome the devastation inflicted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dopoh emphasized that, as the people’s direct representative, he believes that meaningful engagements, which are based on a two-way communication process between leaders, can play an important role in building trust in government.
According to him, considering the present state of the economy and the challenges that come along with it, one would have to think outside the box to create opportunities for the people, while the people, in return, should make use of every opportunity available.
Representative Dopoh assured his constituents of his continued commitment, and promised to initiate more programs that will benefit them.
The River Gee electoral district #3 Representative noted that it is about time that establishments within the district reach out to him with developmental plans, in order for them to collectively take the district to the next level.
