Montserrado County’s district #10 Representative, Yekeh Y. Kolubah, has resigned from the Council of Patriots (COP), a political pressure group against the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) of President George M. Weah. The resignation letter, a copy of which is in the possession of the Hot Pepper, is dated Monday, September 13, 2021.
COP is on record for organizing protests in Liberia, especially the most popular June 7 protest. The COP is a conglomeration of political parties, civil society groupings and ordinary citizens who feel disappointed in the governance of the country by the CDC-led government.
According to the district #10 lawmaker, COP was established to pressurize the ruling establishment to work in the interest of the people who voted the CDC-led government into power in 2017. Representative Kolubah explained in his resignation letter that he has realized that the aims and objectives of the political pressure group is no more and therefore cannot be member of said organization.
He said his resignation takes effect of the date the letter was written and sent to the executive of the COP, and he is however wishing the organization well despite his departure. He appreciated all members of the COP for the level of time spent together during the period of the June 7 protest and every other activity undertaken by the institution.
The district #10 lawmaker urged executives of the COP to continue keeping the CDC-led government’s feet to the fire in order for them to deliver to the expectation of the people. According to him, the COP name will be recorded in history for the peaceful conduct of the June 7 protest in 2019.
