“Rep. Mannah Johnson Still Enjoys The Confidence Of Bomi Citizens”

Bomi County Representative Mannah Bishop Johnson appears certain to emerge as candidate in 2023 general and presidential election to succeed himself in office after his loyal constituents continues to persuade him to seek re-election.

Cross-sections of residents of electoral district #2, including chiefs, elders, zoes, and youth and women groups are convinced that the re-election of Johnson is the right thing to do, considering his immense contributions to the growth and development of their region, especially at a time governments everywhere are faced with tremendous economic problems due to Covid-19.

“The people of the district are therefore yearning for a leadership with vision to create employment opportunities, strengthen health-care delivery and promote primary and secondary education to resurrect the people from poverty,” the residents observed.

“There are indications that Representative Johnson’s three-year-old leadership is doing just that to try to stabilize the condition of his poverty-stricken citizens.”

To achieve his herculean task, the lawmaker quickly embarked on cultivating large areas of lands for coco and oil palm as a way of creating job opportunities for the jobless citizens of the area following his election in 2017.

The 300-acre plantation is located in Jebbeh Fanhnsee, not far from the administrative district of Klay, Bomi highway, is also a demonstration site for coco and oil palm small-scale growers around the district.

The Hot Pepper’s reporter who visited Jebbeh Fanhnsee during a tour of the district at the weekend observed that the plantation is well managed, with over one hundred workers, all of them residents of the districts.

Key on the agenda of Representative Johnson at the moment includes the empowerment of women to be self-sufficient, strengthening the district’s health-care delivery, promoting primary and secondary education as well as helping local authorities to function in line with their responsibilities.

According to the citizens of Bomi, several million Liberian dollars have been invested in women empowerment schemes since Representative Johnson was elected in 2017.

The schemes, according to them, underwrite the cost of construction of market hall, village stores, as well as the provision of cash to get women into productive activities in order to sustain their families.

The program targets the poorest of the poor and widows, especially those who lost their loved ones at the height of the civil conflict in Liberia.

Women from Zordee, Jawajeh, Guie town, Klay, Jebbe Fahnsee, Voker town, Manneh, Golodee, Gonzipo, amongst others have overwhelmingly benefitted from the scheme since it was launched some three years ago.

Residents of district #2 also told this paper that the Bomi lawmaker has also made several other interventions in the district to try to improve the living condition of the people living there, not only in his district, but in other districts in Bomi County.

One resident, said to be a sub-chief, Sando Williams, described the performance of the Bomi lawmaker since 2017 as overwhelming.

Chief Williams emphasized that, despite his prolonged illness, Representative Johnson has managed to undertake massive development projects for the district, with funding entirely from his personal savings.

He named the construction of three strategic bridges in the district, including the one that links the village of Jawajeh and Loah, Bonbor and She Julieh as well as wolee and Geviah Fahnsee.

The Chief also stressed that the lawmaker single handedly constructed several motorbike terminals across the district, including Sass Town, Lekpeh Town and Gueie Town, to help facilitate motorbike transportation in the area.

Another prominent chief, Tee Johnson, Weawolo Clan, disclosed that the lawmaker has also embarked on the construction of a six-classroom building in Sieh Town to boost education.

Chief Johnson noted that, predicated upon these achievements within a short period of time, traditional leaders of the district and the entire citizenry of Bomi district #2 are gearing to re-elect Representative Mannah Bishop Johnson in 2023 in order to continue the good work for the people.
