Rep. Sonwarbi Receives Prestigious Honor Ahead of 2023 Election

Nimba County’s district #3 Representative, Joseph N. Sonwarbi, over the weekend received a prestigious honor from citizens of Kinnion, Yarmein Administrative District, Nimba County, for his numerous contributions to the growth of the town and the clan at large. Kinnion is one of the traditional towns in Yarmein Administrative District.

The Nimba district #3 representative was given the official chair of the district, gowned and certificated for his developmental role in the district, particularly Yarmein Clan. His wife, Marie Sonwarbi, was also gowned by the citizens as the first lady of the district. The ceremony was graced by chiefs and elders, traditional women and youths. The honoring program was marked by traditional performances and cultural dances in Kinnion Town.

Presenting the chair, certificate and gown on behalf of Yarmein Administrative District to Representative Sonwarbi on Saturday, February 19, 2022, former Representative of the district, Henry Gortor, said the honor is historic and prestigious in the history of the district. Former Representative Gortor said Representative Sonwarbi deserves the honor because of his contributions toward the transformation of the district. According to him, there are tangibles that citizens of Yarmein can point to since the election of Sonwarbi in 2017. He pointed out the clinic and road projects as classic examples.

Former Representative Gortor cautioned Representative Sonwarbi to continue to seek the interest of the district at the level of the National Legislature. He maintained that the honor is also intended to motivate him to do more in order to have the district transformed developmentally. He called on Representative Sonwarbi to seek the government’s intervention in the road connectivity of the district. Gortor expressed explicit confidence in Representative Sonwarbi doing more if reelected come 2023. According to him, the reelection of Representative Sonwarbi will allow him to complete projects he is currently undertaking in the district.

Responding to the honor, Representative Sonwarbi said the honor was a surprise to him. “I remain grateful to the good people of Yarmein. If thanks and appreciation are something to be measured in cup or bag, then my thanks and appreciations for the people of Yarmein will only be carried in Ship and not car,” he stated. Representative Sonwarbi told the people of Yarmein that the honor has given him strength to do more for the people of Yarmein while representing them at the House of Representatives.

According to him, the interest of the citizens remains paramount to him as representative. He told citizens of Kinnion that he will ensure that the clinic project is completed soon for the use of the district.  The legislator said the road pavement remains his major concern as representative of his people. Receiving such traditional honor ahead of the 2023 general elections clearly indicates that the people of Yarmein are supporting his reelection bid, he noted. He expressed disappointment in the way and manner the local leadership of the county is managing the yellow machine. He said since the yellow machine was bought, the people of Yarmein have not benefited from it and, therefore, called on members of PMC not to forget about Yarmein. He applauded the organizers of the program for such a historic ceremony, and promised to remain committed to ensuring that the best is done for the district.
