To keep the community abreast with happenings nationwide and worldwide and to promote intellectualism districtwide, which was embedded in his campaign message in 2023’s general elections, Montserrado County’s district #4 Representative, Michael M. Thomas, has donated a television set along with a Satcom package to the VOICES Intellectual Center; writes Ojuku Silver-tongue Kangar, Jr.
The VOICES Intellectual Center, Du-Port Road community, is a hub of intellectual festival and discourse, where people usually flock to drink from the oasis of intellectual fountain. It was touched again by Representative Thomas over the weekend.
“On behalf of the office of Honorable Michael M. Thomas, Representative of electoral district #4 of Montserrado County, we are here today as part of our campaign promise: We said during the campaign that [if] we are elected we were going to renovate and bring up the VOICES Intellectual Center up-to-date,” Titus King, one of Representative Thomas’ office staffers, said.
In fulfillment of Representative Thomas campaign statement, he electrified and painted the intellectual center—before his recent donation to the center.
“We started by painting the center and today. We are here to present to the leadership of VOICES Intellectual Center a television set and a Satcom package–to keep the center lively as our people come here to discuss trending national issues,” office staffer King said. “We hope it be used for the intended purpose; this is a routine activity of the office of Representative Michael Thomas. We will be moving from intellectual center to intellectual center in the district for Honorable Thomas to have direct interaction with his electorate.”
Being touched by Representative Thomas’ donation, an astute elder and member of the VOICES Intellectual Center, Joe P. B. Kai, said, “Thank you very much. It is not a surprise to me. I have been one of the key campaigners for Michael Thomas. I have spoken to many youths in district #4.”
According to the educated elder, district #4 is an intellectual area, and that that was why it was not surprising to him when Unity Party’s Standard Bearer, Joseph N. Boakai, won the highest number of votes in the 2023 general elections in the district.
Before Representative Thomas’ election, he has been rendering humanitarian services in the district, which enthused the electorate to vote for him overwhelmingly, over former Representative Rustolyn Suacco Dennis and other representative-candidates.
“Michael Thomas over the years has had developmental capacity. I have propagated to the youths, and today they have seen the dividends of their votes,” the elder said. “One educator said that there are three things that make a person great: ‘the places you go, the books you read, and the people you affiliate with’.”
He said VOICES made no mistake to sufficiently interact with Representative Thomas because there are lots of things that are going to come, and that this is just the beginning.
“I am proud because it will bring the VOICES up by speed. Many people will have access to news on various international outlets,” Elder Kai said.
In conclusion, the logical elder warned the youthful population. “My last message to the young people: this is an example to know how to vote. We don’t just vote because we want to vote; we vote for development and people who will bring change to the community. Vote for people who will improve your life. We don’t vote because you want to say ‘muyah, muyah’, no!”
