The Religious Advisor to the Office of President of the Republic of Liberia, Rev. M. Emmanuel Nimely, has stated that religious tolerance is key to the forward march of the country. “Liberia is all we have, and is the common denominator for all Liberians, regardless of political differences,” Rev. Nimely noted.
Rev. Nimely said he wants Liberians to live in unity, regardless of religious differences. He made the statements on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 during an exclusive interview with the Hot Pepper.
As to whether Liberia is a Muslim or Christian state, Rev. Nimely said the National Legislature is the one clothed with the responsibility of deciding that, and that his role is to foster peace and unity among Liberians.
He used the occasion to announce an upcoming peace and reconciliation summit, to be held in December 2021. According to him, the gathering will bring together every religious group in Liberia, and also feature religious international guests from abroad.
He disclosed that the summit is expected to be one of the biggest religious summits to ever take place in Liberia. The Religious Advisor to the President said he wants religious leaders to continue to support the Government of Liberia (GOL) through prayers.
