The office of Nimba County Senator and Vice Standard Bearer of the opposition Unity Party (UP) has refuted media report that Senator Jeremiah Kpan Koung was denied United States of America visa recently. According to a statement issued by Senator Koung’s Chief of Office Staff (COS), Prince M. Gbieu, on Monday, June 26, 2023, the report of the Senator denial is far from the truth.
The office also reacted to a Saturday, June 24, 2023 social media post on Gedehhard GHT Talkfm platform, captioned, “Unity Party Vice Presidential Candidate Jeremiah K. Koung Writes Jerome Verdier Sr. to assist with the murder case involving Cllr Scott”. This, according to the statement, was followed by a second caption which stated that there is an urgent appeal to Cllr Jerome J Verdier Sr. II to provide sufficient evidence to aid Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott’s case.
“Based on the aforementioned frivolous statements, the Hon. Office of Senator Jeremiah Kpan Koung, wishes to notify the Gedehhard GHT Talkfm that the statement published is only a piece of failed propaganda organized to further swell the unscrupulousness of the already columnist’s society of Liberia that has mainly deepened in recent years without pensiveness.
“We therefore desire to update the general public that at no time did Senator Jeremiah Kpan Koung write Cllr. Jerome Verdier to intervene in the on-going criminal case involving former Chief Justices Gloria Musu Scott and three other family members. We believe the legal system of Liberia has reached a point that citizens anticipate its competence to independently dispense justice for all men irrespective of their gender, color, tribe and political party affiliation, and so does not require any extract ad testificandum to satisfy the jurisprudence of the case.”
Additionally, it has been widely spread on a page created and manage by loyalists of Senator Koung’s opponents that he was denied American visa in recent time. The office also states to this effect that the information is a diabolical lie and does not pass the test of attempted truth. It can be recalled that Senator Jeremiah Kpan Koung’s last visit to the United States of America was in 2018. Since 2018, he has not desired, applied or attempted to apply for American visa for the past five years.
This attempt by his opponents, according to the statement, only demonstrates a high level of bankruptcy for the political process and are seared of strategies to convince the Liberia people.
“As we are in electioneering period, we encourage the public and netizens to be cognizant of the fact that the spin masters and negative ad peddlers who are ceaselessly falsehood-fabricating machines will be very vigorous, as this has been the case we have witnessed for the last five years in our country. We know that this case borders around the quality of our judiciary system, governance and society. While in these times, it is important that we sanitize the political process because it’s about the safety of the Liberian people.” The statement notes that, in the future, when necessary, the Unity Party, through its Executive Committee, will make the determination to seek additional legal support in defense of justice. “The Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) remains supportive to the Unity Party (UP) on the Rescue Mission,” the statement reiterated.
