The government’s COVID-19 Household Food Support Program (COHFSP) on Friday, July 3, 2020, continued its activities across Montserrado County with the food distribution.

On Friday, the food distribution was done in Buzzy Quarters, Maternity Center community, By-Pass, Rockspring Valley and Capitol Hill.

In line with the President’s mandate for the provision of food support for most vulnerable communities across Liberia, Friday’s distribution was 5th within the Montserrado belt, and has benefited over 50 orphanages and several communities since its beginning.

The package, which includes two 25kg bags of rice, 28 cups of beans and 1 gallon of vegetable oil, was distributed by a team from the constituted Steering Committee that is represented by the World Food Program (WFP) and the Government of Liberia (GOL). Targeted households within the mentioned communities benefited from the distribution.

Speaking during the distribution, Noamie Harris, a member of the Presidential Steering Committee, called on receivers of the stimulus package to properly use the food for its intended purpose. Harris told them that the food is not intended to be sold. According to her, the food is for those who are actually in need, and Liberians should stop selling the food.

During the distribution, James Peter and Expensive Deson applauded President George M. Weah for the gesture, especially during this critical period. According to them, there has been no food distribution in Liberia of recent. They assured the President that the food will not be sold as advised by the Minister of Commerce.    In a related development, the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism says it wishes to inform all concerned beneficiaries and the highlighted communities that the Government of Liberia (GOL) takes seriously the observation of all health protocols during the distribution exercise, and will ensure that adherence to these measures are considered. “Community leaders, Elders and Youth groups are asked to be a part of the exercise by observing and reporting all misconducts or irregularities that could disrupt the true intent of the COHFSP distribution exercise. Together we can fight this Covid-19 pandemic out of Liberia,” a MICAT statement noted.
