Several Communities Suffer Power Outage; As LEC Announces Technical Issues At Mt. Coffee Plant

The management of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has disclosed that some of its power distribution feeders have been temporarily switched off due to technical issues at the Mt. Coffee Hydropower Plant, causing several communities in central Monrovia and their environs to be without electricity for the past few days.

According to a LEC press release, these issues are currently being resolved by its team of engineers, with the support from the Original Equipment Manufacturer.

“In the meantime, the LEC will continue to provide service using capacity from the CLSG and our Bushrod thermal plants. As the current energy supply is insufficient to meet the present load demand, feeders will have to be switched off alternately during this period pending the resumption of full service at the Mt. Coffee Hydro Power Plant (MCHPP),” the release stated.

Even though the release fell short of stating a definite date that the problem will be fully resolved and power restored, the LEC management expressed regrets for the inconvenience the temporal outage may cause, and called on its customers to conserve on their energy consumption to optimize its service to the general public.
