Criminals apprehended by LNP

The police in Ganta have arrested and sent to court over 40 allegedly notorious criminals. The arrest was made over the weekend by the police in collaboration with the joint security operating in the city.

The joint security on Saturday, August 15, 2020 embarked on an exercise to raid criminals from the city, which hosts the commercial activities of the second most densely populated city in the county.

The decision to apprehend the alleged criminals was motivated by complaints from residents of the city in recent days about the night harassment of a group of unknown individuals.

They claimed that their lives was being terrorized by the criminals who intimidate them with deadly weapons, including cutlasses, knives, among others, and made away with several valuable items of theirs.

Phones and money, they said, were being taken away from them by the allegedly notorious criminals.

Ganta has over the past days been overwhelmed by groups of criminals, making movement in the city difficult at night. The residents have thus been appealing to the joint security and the city government to institute strong measures to arrest the situation.

As part of their recommendations, they are calling for the reorganization of community vigilante groups, reawakening of community watch forums, among others.

In response to their call, the police decided to launch a vigorous search, through which the alleged criminals were arrested. Those apprehend are all residents of Gompa, who live in various communities of the city, according to CSD commander, Redeemer J. Toe. They were collected for crimes including burglary, harassment and robbery.

All of those arrested are young men, with only one female. They have since been sent to Sanniquellie to face court prosecution.

Meanwhile, the police is calling on community members to cooperate with them in combating crime in the city.
