The Societal Reform Initiative For Transparency and Accountability has rubbished an allegation that the National Social Security Corporation (NASSCORP) and its Director General, Dewitt vonBallmoos, have been involved in compromised audits by the Deputy Auditor General for Audit, Winsley Nyanka.
In a statement issued Monday, June 13, 2022, the Societal Reform Initiative said, “Our attentions have been drawn to unsubstantiated allegation in some quarters that the Deputy AG for Audit, Mr. Winsley Nyanka, compromised the audits conducted at the National Social Security Corporation (NASSCORP). This allegation is not only damaging to the hard-earned reputation of Deputy AG Nyanka and NASSCORP DG vonBallmoos but an unfair judgment of the workings of public servants who are devoted to bringing change in the business-as-usual style of governance of the country.
“For the record, Deputy AG Nyanka is the longest serving Deputy Auditor General at the General Auditing Commission (GAC). His stay at the graft institution from the Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf administration up to the George Weah administration is based on his high level of credibility, experience and integrity shown over the years. Let it be of no joke to drag such a man’s name in the mud all because of politics and self aggrandizement.”
According to the group, it has followed the track record of NASSCORP under the watch of DG vonBallmoos, and that the entity has always been open for internal and external audits. The group however emphasized that none of the audits has hooked the entity in malpractice or financial misappropriation; therefore, it behooves them to see the smear campaign against the entity.
The group challenged those parading with the allegation to provide any fact surrounding their accusation, but if not they should do away with tarnishing the reputation of statesmen and focus on issues that yield positive impact.
The group underscored that DG vonBallmoos has maintained a character of integrity, transparency, accountability and goodwill, evident by the way he has taken social security to the people through decentralization of the entity’s activities.
The Societal Reform Initiative For Transparency and Accountability used the medium to gratify President George M. Weah for the re-nomination of Dewitt vonBallmoos as Director General of NASSCORP and, at the same time, entreated DG vonBallmoos to continue his good work at the entity and not give into the criticism of “overnight” advocates.
