On the eve to the start of the Exhibition Exercise for the 2020 Provisional Registration Roll, the Board of Commissioners of the National Elections Commission has welcomed the arrival and subsequent deployment of two separate Technical Support Teams from the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
At a news conference Tuesday, and in keeping with the key dates released by the NEC for the conduct of the 8 December 2020, 2020 Special Senatorial Election and Constitutional Referendum, the Chairperson of NEC Davidetta Browne Lansanah officially declared that the Exhibition exercise of the 2020 Provisional Registration Roll will start on Wednesday, 28 October 2020 and will close on 31 October 2020.
The NEC Boss challenged Liberians to attend the 2080 voting precincts across the country to verity their details of the 2017 registration and 2020 update to make sure their names, age, sex, photograph. She said the exhibition will also give Liberians the opportunity to make claims for omitted date, amend incorrect name, age, sex, unclear photos and to object to the inclusion of names of unqualified persons.
Speaking Tuesday, 26 October 2020 at the news conference in Monrovia, the Chairperson of NEC Davidetta Browne Lansanah said the four-person separate data Technical Support Teams will be assigned to the Data Center of the Commission in a quest by the Commission to maintain and further strengthen the integrity of the Voter Roll.
The Chairperson of the NEC said coming of the data technical support is part of the openness of the Commission to address the many public concerns as it relates to cleaning up and subsequent development of the Voter Roll.
The NEC remains highly appreciative of the invaluable contributions that the UNDP and ECOWAS Commission through its President for their continued support to the NEC and the democratic process of Liberia.
Earlier on Tuesday, the four data technical support team from the Independent Elections Commission of Nigeria including the Director, ITC of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Engr. Chidi Nwafor, Mrs. Abimbola Oladunjoye Deputy Data Mgt. INEC and Mr. Collins Onyemaobi, Backend Architect, INEC, and the UNDP Data Consultant, Juvenalis Gitau, were introduced to members of registered Political Parties through an emergency meeting of the interactive dialogue forum, styled, “Inter Party Consultative Committee (IPCC)”.
The general views expressed at the IPCC meeting by political parties, including members of the Coalition for Democratic (CDC), Collaborating Political Parties, (CPP), Rainbow Alliance, Liberia National Union, Liberia Transformation Party, Liberia Restoration Party and the National Democratic Coalition, were a welcoming and resounding gestures of the ECOWAS and UNDP data technical support teams to the data center of NEC to help with the cleaning up of the Voter Roll.
In a related development, Commissioner Cllr. Ernestine Morgan Awar, reading the final ruling of the Board of Commissioners of NEC, growing out of the case Korvah M. Jorgbor et al of the City of Monrovia, Objectors versus Brownie J. Samukai, first respondent and the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), Intervener Respondent for an appeal action of preliminary injunction dismissed the Movant’s motion and granted the respondent’s appeal. All seven members of the BOC, Chairperson Davidetta Browne Lansanah, Co-chairperson Cllr. P. Teplah Reeves, Commissioners Boakai A. Dukuly, Barsee Leo Kpangbai, Cllr. Ernestine Morgan Awar, Josephine Kou Gaye and Floyd Oxley Sayor heard the case and therefore signed. Meanwhile the Movant, led by Cllr. Thompson Jappah, excepted and announced an appeal to the Honorable Supreme Court of Liberia.
