UL’s 2021 Graduate, 7 Family Members Found Dead

A 2021 graduate of the University of Liberia (UL), along with seven members of her family, was found dead on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 after her graduation party. The incident took place in the Coal Tar Field community, behind the Samuel Kayan Doe Sports Complex, Paynesville.

The lady, whose name is withheld, celebrated her party on Wednesday along with members of her family and community dwellers, and was said to have gone to bed in sound minds and good health.

Shockingly, when the DJ who played at the party came to collect his materials and his money early Thursday morning, he noticed that the door to the house was still locked from inside; therefore, he went to their neighbors to ask whether they have woken up. Everyone got concerned and went to check.

While making attempts to spy through the window, they noticed a man sitting helplessly in a chair, a hand-fan that was stock in an unmovable position, with his body stiff in one position.

Eye-witnesses who spoke to the Hot Pepper said all attempts to get someone from within the house did not materialize, and so they burst the door open, but were greeted by a number of dead bodies.

They said this was how they immediately called on the Liberia National Police (LNP) to take charge of the situation, and helped to remove the remains.

Eight persons lost their lives in the tragic incident—the graduate, her daughter, her mother, her brothers and sisters.

The cause of their deaths has not been ascertained, but some bystanders linked it to the generator’s smoke.
