At its Gbarnga Convention, the Unity Party (UP) showcased a level of transparency by allowing journalists to witness the voting process, but however denied them access during the counting process. The media was allowed to witness the entire voting process of the convention, which lasted for over seven hours, but the party asked all journalists to leave the hall while counting was about to start; culled from SPOON TV LIVE.
The organizers of the convention are yet to give reason why the media was denied from witnessing the counting process.
Unity Party is noted for accusing the Weah administration for corruption, but denied journalists access to witness the counting process after delegates of the convention casted their votes.
Meanwhile, Rev. Luther Tarpeh was declared winner of the National Chairmanship position of the Unity Party, as Amos Tweh was also declared winner of the National Secretary position.
Rev. Tarpeh defeated Chairman Amin Modad, while Tweh won Mohammed Ali, National Secretary, at the party national convention in Gbarnga, Bong County.
Mo Ali is said to have obtained 148 votes out of the 339 accredited voters, but fell short behind the victor, Tweh, who obtained 168 votes.
Rev. Tarpeh reportedly secured a total of 188 votes to defeat his rival, Modad.
Former Bong County Superintendent, Selena Polson-Mappy, defeated former Monsterrado County lawmaker, Josephine Francis, for the position of Vice Chairman for Women Affairs of the party, while the incumbent Senior National Vice Chairman of the party, Dabah Varpilah, won on white ballot.
Ambassador Joseph N. Boakai contested and won the standard bearer position on white ballot, Whroway Bryant was elected National Vice Chairman for Mobilization and Recruitment and Cornelia Kruah-Togba won the position of National Vice Chair for Inter-Party and National Elections Commission Affairs.
