The United States Congressional Black Caucus has presented its recognition to the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Nathaniel F. McGill and Chief of Staff to the President of Liberia, His Excellency George Manneh Weah, in recognition of the Bicentennial anniversary.
Minister McGill is the National Steering Committee Chairperson of the Bicentennial celebrations, which was successfully launched on February 14, 2022 and continues throughout the year.
The Congressional recognition, signed by Joyce Beatty, Member of Congress and Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, reads, “On behalf of the Members of the Congressional Black Caucus, I am proud to join the Liberian Government to commemorate its Bicentennial Anniversary.
“Liberia is a nation of rich cultural heritage that resonates globally and is a celebrated ally to the United States of America. On the occasion of the 200th Anniversary commemoration, we are proud to mark the arrival of the first Free Black Africans to Providence Island in 1822. We are also proud to forge ahead in the quest of stronger economic and social bonds between Liberians and Americans. Liberia has long demonstrated the importance of unity and uplifting democratic principle and remains a testament to the fortitude and foresight that exists in the heart of the people of this country.
“The United States and Liberia share a unique history of democratic value systems, and the congressional Black Caucus applauds Liberia for its unwavering dedication to the protection and preservation of Black people across the diaspora. The Members of the Congressional Black Caucus extend our sincerest congratulations to President George Manneh Weah, Members of the Bicameral Liberian Upper and Lower houses, the Bicentennial Steering Committee, and all the people of Liberia.
“As Africa’s oldest republic, Liberia stands as a beacon of democracy and decency throughout the globe and it is the sense of the Congressional Black Caucus that your contributions, leadership, and creativity embody a spirit of excellence worthy of the admiration and commendation of the United States Congress.
