Weah Orders Koijee’s Return

–As Opposition Unites Against Boakai’s Disregard For Supreme Court’s Ruling

–But What Is The Motive?

Sources close to former President George Manneh Weah have hinted the Hot Pepper that the ex-President has mandated the Secretary General of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), Jefferson Tamba Koijee, to return to Liberia in the soonest possible time, and that he has allegedly purchased Koijee’s flight ticket to that effect, in order to avoid any delay.

Koijee is said to be in the United Kingdom pursuing his education and is still far from completing his sojourn; however, it is expected that he will be in Monrovia anytime soon to execute whatever agenda he has been summoned for.

As the Hot Pepper continues its investigation into the motive for Koijee’s return, it is being speculated that Weah has begun to amalgamate forces for his return to state power in 2029, beginning with first uniting several opposition political parties under a coalition again and becoming more vocal against the Boakai administration’s disregard for the rule of law, bad governance and economic stagnation.

On Friday, April 25, 2025, several opposition political parties, including the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), National Patriotic Party (NPP), Alternative National Congress (ANC), People’s Liberation Party (PLP) and several other parties assembled at the ANC headquarters to hold a joint press conference to condemn President Boakai’s refusal to honor the Supreme Court’s ruling in the legislative impasse.

At the joint press conference, the Political Leader of the NPP and former Vice President of Liberia, Jewel Howard-Taylor, emphasized that the Supreme Court’s ruling is a mandate and is not debatable; therefore, President Boakai, whom she described as the First Citizen of Liberia, must respect the mandate. She asserted that the President must do so, either in calm or in chaos.

The gathering and the former Vice President’s statement corroborated the Hot Pepper’s findings that Weah’s order of Koijee return is not only intended for political amalgamation, but to instigate a defiance posture to Boakai’s rejection of the court’s ruling until he recognizes Koffa as Speaker. According to the paper’s findings, the defiance may come in statements, complaints and small protests, which will then give rise to a mass demonstration that could possible shutdown the country.

The investigation found that the Chairman of the Solidarity and Trust for A New Day (STAND), Mulbah K. Morlu, is being used to carry out underground recruitment and brainwashing through his civil society movement, while Weah and other executives of a number of opposition political parties provide the funding to sustain the plan.

It is being rumored that STAND’s planned protest slated for July 17, 2025, “Enough is Enough! Protest for Change”, is the beginning of the implementation of a grand plan to oust the Boakai administration from power and usher in an interim arrangement.

The intent of the July 17 protest, according to sources who confided in the Hot Pepper on the basis of anonymity, is to test the possibility of launching the grand plan. Morlu will lead the protest. The opposition parties would verbally endorse it and send their members in disguise to escalate the number.

Accordingly, if the protest is successful, then the main demonstration can take shape—a press conference would be held to officially release the date, time and venues for the demonstration. The recruitment would begin from where Morlu and the STAND stopped, making it easy to obtain the numbers.
But amidst all these plans, it is being rumored that there is no suitable leader for the grand plan, as leaders of various political parties do not want to be seen as part of a scheme to dethrone a sitting President, even though it is in their interest.

While a suitable leader is still being scouted for, it is being speculated that Weah’s order for Koijee’s return is to fill in that gap, with many allegedly agreeing that Koijee has what it takes to bring the numbers, and is brave enough to challenge the status-quo.

According to information, there is internal wrangling within the CDC, with a huge segment of the party viewing the Acting Chairman, Janga Augustus Kowo, as being very weak to lead a party like the CDC in such a time. They are therefore requesting that Koijee takes over the Chairmanship under certain arrangements and lead the party to the 2029 elections.

Whether Koijee is made Chairman or not, the Hot Pepper investigation revealed that Weah’s plan is to tap on Koijee’s popularity and energy to lead the grand plan to cause for an interim arrangement, which Koijee may not refuse due to the high esteem he holds for Weah.

It is not clear why the opposition community is allegedly ganging up to remove the Boakai administration in its second year, but it is being speculated that these politicians are afraid that Boakai is not in control of the government, and those in control may play the game in their favor between 2027 and 2028 by asking the President to resign for his Vice President, Jeremiah Koung, to take over and lead the country to election, which would make it easy to rig on his behalf and the case languishes in the courts forever. It is being said that if Boakai refuses to resign, Koon and his team at the House would initiate an impeachment process against him, and he would be removed by force.

This, sources say, the opposition community is not willing to allow to happen; as such, they may not wait to allow that plan to mature, and so they were awaiting the perfect opportunity to hatch their plan. In so doing, Boakai’s flagrant disregard for the Supreme Court’s ruling has avail such an opportunity, and the opposition community is doing everything possible to catch the regime by surprise. Investigation continues.
